Must be sold! The current owner is hanging-up his racing suit and wants his 1970 Lotus Europa S2 to go to the next custodian to have as much fun on the racetrack in it as he did.

Purchased in 2004 with 76,000 miles on the clock, the owner then set about turning what was already a very capable car into something even more special. Initially a Mazda 12A peripheral port was installed in the car which translated to lap times of 1:03 secs at Barbagallo Raceway in Perth. Seeking more horsepower, the 12A was replaced with a 13B Turbo with all work done by the rotary experts at Rotomotion in WA. And as you can see from the photos of the engine bay, the work that they have done is of a very high standard. The 13B is mated to an Audi 6 speed transaxle and puts down in excess of 300hp at the wheels... which in a car that only weighs approximately 700kg means that 0-100kph times would be around the 3 second mark.

The brakes have been upgraded (also courtesy of Mazda) and the owner also carried out a range of suspension improvements front and rear. Being an engineer, a lot of time and development effort was dedicated to ensuring that the Lotus stuck to the road and performed as it should not only when competing but when being enjoyed on public roads as well.

In terms of competition use, the car comes with a CAMS logbook and certified cage however aside from a handful of hill climbs and club sprints, it really was just built to be driven to the track, enjoyed amongst fellow Lotus enthusiasts and then driven home. The car is fully registered in Queensland and has a modification plate with codes LA2, LA3, LG2, LK10 and LB1.

From a documentation standpoint, a workshop manual will be included with the sale, as will a filing cabinet of paperwork demonstrating all of the research and development that has gone into the car.

There is a section on the front spoiler that has been modified to allow for a tow point – refer photo – that the owner had intended to tidy up however it is up to the new custodian as to whether they would prefer to run with a more road-friendly front spoiler depending on its intended use.
In the words of the seller “I absolutely love this car however I’m now at the point where I would like to pass it on to someone else who will equally love it and enjoy it.”

With a little bit of TLC we think this would make for an excellent weekend cruiser, circuit racer or project for its new owner and the instruction from the owner is that it is time for the Lotus to be sold. The car is available for inspection in Brisbane, Queensland.
