1976 Toyota Celica RA23 For Sale

Purchased as a project in 2005, this Celica started in my ownership as a very straight 99% rust free body that had oxidised paint, an 18RC engine and auto, but otherwise was in great condition as it had been owned for most of its life by an older gentleman. The restoration took some time, with the first version of my dream Celica hitting the road in 2010. She has been lightly used since then and only done approximately 5,000 km since, with a number of upgrades along the way.

As it sits now she has the following highlights:
• 18RG twin cam engine. Built by Jason Maros, includes reconditioned head by Dandenong Rebores, 92mm Arias pistons,10.5:1 compression ratio, Cometic head gasket, Bosch electronic distributor, extractors and Solex carbs, which were rebuilt in 2010 and again in 2021 (due to lack of use). It has fantastic torque and spins round the tacho so easily, and the sound of those twin carbs singing is very hard to beat.
• 5 speed manual conversion, including factory pedal box and Exedy sports clutch. P51 gearbox installed as per GT spec, with cube short shifter.
• Shockworks front coilover suspension and Shockworks adjustable rear dampers with King rear springs. Whiteline RCA’s. Whiteline rear sway bar. Ride and handling is absolutely brilliant!
• 4 pot Hilux front brake conversion, DBA T3 slotted vented front brake rotors with 1” Supra master cylinder. Stock rear end and drum brakes. Spare front rotors come with the car.
• 15”x7” 0 offset Konig Rewind wheels and 205/50/15 Toyo tyres
• Body work and respray by Trevor Davis Auto Refinishers in PPG paint, factory colour with a twist of xirallic pearl. Spent huge money back then on getting it done right and it still looks brilliant today. There is no rust in this car.
• Interior refresh included retrimmed vinyl seats using GT basketweave, new moulded carpet, new Momo Prototipo steering wheel, GT handbrake console, restored dash top by the Dashboard Doctor, black velour headlining, new parcel shelf, lined boot.
• Other resto work included bumpers rechromed, badges rechromed, NOS c-pillar trims and Celica badges, GT grille, window runners replaced, window rubbers replaced, new windscreen, H4 headlight conversion, reconditioned radiator and fuel tank, 22RE reduction starter motor, Odyssey battery and many other small jobs to make it great.

The time has come to sell the car that I didn’t think I would ever sell. I have enjoyed my time with her and I still love driving it and admiring it, but it’s time to move on to different automotive pleasures.

The car has recently had a major service including carb rebuild again and is running the best it ever has. It is on non-transferable club rego so will come without Rego and I will leave RWC to you and your mechanic. I don’t expect it will need much, if anything, to pass a roadworthy inspection, but that depends where you live and your relationship with your mechanic.

I am happy for any inspection, test drives will be for serious buyers only. Happy to work with interstate or overseas buyers on getting the car to a transport depot if required.

Last 3 photos are of the car pre restoration to give you an idea of what a good base it started from.

Inspection in Eltham (Melbourne, VIC) by appointment only.

$47,500 ono.
