ATEK SUPERCAR WHEELS

As to the weight & strength of the wheel.. It is the lightest & strongest wheel in 18x11.

Atek rims using the forged aluminium technology offers a perfectly balanced rim due to all its surfaces being machined. Cast wheel technology, on the other hand, limits the possibility of machining all surfaces, leaving behind uneven raw material which could cause imbalances of various kinds.

The main advantages of the forged aluminium A-TEK rim over a cast magnesium rim are:

Forged aluminium is more durable (not porous or prone to casting irregularities)T6 heat treatment ensures maximum structural integrityAll A-TEK rims are 100% CNC machined to ensure more consistent weight and tolerancesUnique design allows flexible calliper/rotor placementErgonomic spoke design for ease of handling during wheel changes/pit stopsIncreased braking effectiveness due to cross-air ventilation design

THE FORGING PROCESS

WHAT IS FORGING

Forging is a manufacturing process where metal is pressed, pounded or squeezed under great pressure into high strength parts known as forgings. The process is normally (but not always) performed hot by preheating the metal to a desired temperature before it is worked. It is important to note that the forging process is entirely different from the casting process, as metal used to make forged parts is never melted and poured (as in casting).

Unlike casting or machining (billet), forging uses intense heat and pressure to transform a slug of alloy material into the final shape of a wheel. Under this heat and pressure, the original grain structure of the stock material is forced from the centre of the wheel towards the outer edge. This grain structure is even stronger than the one found in a billet wheel because it runs along the spokes and serves to further strengthen the forged wheel’s spokes, while the grain in a billet wheel simply runs through the spokes.

Thanks to this process, a forged wheel can be up to 300 percent stronger than a cast wheel. Additionally, since forged aluminium is stronger than cast aluminium, less material is needed to produce the wheel, resulting in a lighter product.

WHAT IS AN ALLOY WHEEL

Alloy metals provide superior strength and dramatic weight reductions over ferrous metals such as steel and as such they represent the ideal material from which to create a high performance road vehicle that doesn’t utilise the benefits of alloy wheels.

PERFORMANCE BENEFITS

Reduced Unsprung weight

Unsprung weight is one of the most critical factors affecting a vehicle’s road holding ability. Unsprung weight is that portion of the vehicle that is not supported by the suspension (i.e. wheels, tyres and brakes) and therefore as most susceptible to road shock and cornering forces. By reducing unsprung weight, alloy wheels provide more precise steering input and improved “turning” in characteristics.

Improved Acceleration and Braking

By reducing the weight of the vehicle’s rotational mass, alloy wheels provide more responsive acceleration and braking.

Improved Handling

The added strength of a quality alloy wheel can significantly reduce wheel/tyre deflection in cornering. Increased Brake Cooling

The metals in alloy wheels are excellent conductors of heat improving heat dissipation from the brakes reducing risk of fade under demanding driving conditions.

Price is per set of 4 wheels. I have plenty available and willing to do a deal.
