The Penske PC 16 was developed for the 1987 CART PPG Indy Car World Series season and raced at several events for that year. In total Penske built 4 cars, with this car, Chassis 004 being driven by four-time Indy 500 winner Rick Mears and sponsored by Pennzoil. This McLaren M10B was originally a spare tub for New Zealand Grand Prix winner the late Neil Allen after initially being crashed. After being sent back to Trojan for repair and returned, Allen would sell the tub and spare parts to Porsche ace Alan Hamilton who built the tub into a complete car. Entering the Australian Drivers Championship in 1971 Hamilton came 3rd Australian Grand Prix and was equal 2nd in Gold Star Championship with Kevin Bartlett (who owner the sister car Neil Allen car)

Bob Fernley , Force India, owned the car and ran Jim Crawford(Ex F1) and Michael Roe in the 1984 CanAm championship, the RK 847 finished a credible 2nd in its inaugural year of competition. A major rebuild/restoration has been completed to bring this car back to the way it looked in the June 1984 Autosport track test article, notably with the high mounted single plane front wing which was the trademark of this Chris Murphy designed race car.
