This car has a very successful record of podium finishes in classic tarmac rallies, including 2nd in Targa Tasmania. It is also brilliant for clubsport having won the Porsche club SA driver's championship. It is perfectly balanced and comfortable to drive and is only for sale because the time has come for me to stop flat out competition driving, having just come second in the Adealide Rally Classic competition at age 71. I am now buying a road registered Porsche.
This car is originally a 1972 (short wheel-based) model, and very well sorted with all the best equipment and no expense spared. The engine block and gear box are historically accurate to qualify for the classic category of tarmac rallies. The engine is a twin plug 3 litre block bored out to 3500cc and with Carillo rods allowing for higher revving to 7500 and higher power to about 350hp (260kw), but still with high torque, running PMO carbies. It was last rebuilt in Feb 2018 and is still going strong. The gear box is a classic 915 box with close ratio gears and was last rebuilt in Aug 2020. The clutch was last rebuilt in Feb 2020 with a high clamp alloy pressure plate, 5 button clutch plate and lightweight flywheel. The brakes are upgraded and never fade despite the driver being one of the last of the late brakers. Mallala tests brakes to the limit. The coilover suspension has 3 way adjustable shockers with in-board cannisters making adjustment really easy. The gear shift is the very accurate Weevo shifter with a lockout for reverse. A hydraulic handbrake is fitted for sure-fire handbrake turns. The full cage is grandfathered under Motorsport Australia regs. Log book number 600968. The car comes with 2 sets of wheels being 8x17 fronts and 9x17 rears. Tyres of choice are R-spec soft all round as the car only weighs 1020Kg and is pretty easy on the rears for a rear engine Porsche. If you know times for Mallala and the Bend, you will know that 1:17.2 at Malala and 2:11.1 on the International circuit at the Bend is not too shabby. I would be happy to arrange any inspection, and if you want to take it on the track to see for yourself how good this car is, I would be happy to take a suitable surety/deposit and make the arrangements. The trailer is also available at an attractive price if desired.
