If you’re looking to get involved in motorsport and chasing a lightweight, analogue driving experience with proven credentials, this striking KE55 Coupe is a well-sorted, reliable package ready for competition use. Perfect for sprints, khanacross, motorkhana and hill climb events, the current owner utilised the Toyota so that his sons could get a taste for motorsport and – they enjoyed it so much - they are now looking for something a bit more serious. Hence, the KE55 is reluctantly offered to the market.

At the heart of the Toyota is a 3T 1800cc engine, professionally built by respected engine builder Graham Johnson. The motor features a performance camshaft and extensive cylinder head work, delivering strong responsiveness and usable power suited to tight, technical courses.

Fuel delivery is handled by twin 45 Weber carburettors, providing sharp throttle response and a classic induction sound. Supporting hardware includes electronic ignition for reliability, a custom airbox setup, and extractors to improve engine efficiency. Power is delivered through a 5-speed manual gearbox, paired with a modified 4A-series differential, offering a balance of acceleration and durability.

Inside, the car is set up with motorsport use in mind. A Daytona fixed race seat with a 5-point harness keeps the driver secure, while a full steel roll cage adds safety and chassis rigidity. A period-correct SAAS steering wheel takes care of driver input whilst an Autometer tacho on the steering column ensures that the driver is always kept informed.

The Toyota runs a set of Yokohama A509 tyres (205/60/R13) and included with the sale are two additional sets of wheels and tyres: 1x set of Yokohama Advan A048 semi-slicks and 1x set of wets. Further, there is a spare bonnet, spare guards, upper and lower stone trays, strut brace, boot, water pump, intake and a pair of front struts/brakes. Refer image gallery for photos of each item. An in-car camera and recording system is also installed, making it easy to review runs or capture event footage.

This KE55 has been actively campaigned and has proven to be a fun and competitive car across multiple grassroots motorsport disciplines. Importantly, it has delivered exceptional reliability and – thanks to its rear wheel drive configuration – has been the perfect vehicle to learn car control and the basics of rallying. Having sat on the family property for a little while, the Corolla would benefit from a tune. Once done, it is absolutely ready to be enjoyed and will no doubt provide many thrills for its next owner.
