BMW E30 For Sale - Tasmania
I am selling my E30 project car. This has been a no budget project and has so far cost in the region of $50,000, without counting the minor costs.
I have decided to retire from tarmac rally, which I have built the car for and I need the space for new projects.
The car started life as a 1985 323i manual 2 door. It has been fitted with a bored and stroked 2.9 litre engine with extensive modifications. The engine mods are within the allowed spec for Targa Classic competition.
The car has been almost totally rebuilt and the only original (ie, not new) parts in the chassis and driveline are the transmission and drive shaft.
There was a small area of rust in the sills/footwell at the front and this has been cut out and replaced.
The sunroof and cassette has been removed and the old sun roof panel bonded back into the roof.
The car was intended for Classic Thoroughbred Trophy Targa competition and as such. there is a CAMS/Motorsport Australia approved and registered Type 2 cage (half cage). The cage has welded in mounts and a permanently fitted sill bar reinforcing the sill area and providing foot crush protection. There are also demountable lateral bars and forward roof and door bars. There are no roof diagonals or secondary braces on the front laterals but these could be fitted to take the cage to Type 1 spec.
All roll cage demountable joints are with UK sourced FIA spec joiners and a there are sufficient spare joiners for the above modifications.
As the car was intended for road and SI rally rego, the interior has been fitted with sound deadening Resomat and interior carpet.
The chassis upgrades and mods are extensive and include:
• Wheels: 4 x Team Dynamics Pro Race 1.2 Alloy - 6 wheels with 4 new Bridgestone Potenza road tyres
• Brakes: Willwood big disk front brake upgrade ex MRP NZ with new rotors, pads and shoes on rears. New bearings all round.
• New high capacity brake master cylinder.
• Suspension: Godspeed coil-overs and adjustable spring front and rear.
• Reinforced front subframe and rear suspension arms
• Urethane bushes all round
• New front control arms
• New Difflab 4.1 4 clutch LSD
• New rear drive shafts
• BMW Z3 fast steering rack
• Solid mounted shift linkage with short shift.
• New Velo race seats
• New MOMO steering wheel (not yet fitted)
• Boot mounted battery (new) with rear seat mounted isolation switch
Engine mods include:
• Replacement engine: M20B25 ex 1989 E34
• Engine mods:
o 2.9 litre Bimmerheads 2.9 litre forged steel stroker crank with:
o 9.75:1 Mahle pistons
o Molnar forged H section rods
o Bimmerheads “race” head with 1mm oversize valves and forged steel rockers (head supplied fully built by Bimmerheads USA
o 284/280 camshaft
o Engine built and balanced by Matthew Rodgers at Tasmanian R=Engine Reconditioners
• Fritz’s Bits SS tube manifold with 2 1/2 “ SS exhaust system
• Deleted MAF
• New injectors / ignition system
• Alloy radiator / electric fan
• Oil cooler
• ECU: Megasquirt BMW E30/325i/E32/E34 1987-1993 MSPNP Gen2 Plug and Play ECU
• GM IAT Sensor
• Innovate MTX-AL analog wideband air/fuel ratio gauge - 3855
• TunerStudio MS Lite! V3.108 – MS@/Extra release 3.3.1
The ECU has been tuned to start, idle and run but has not been dyno tuned, as the car has not yet left my 400 mtr driveway. It is essentially new and unused.
Everything works and there are no oil or fluid leaks and car feels very strong, bearing in mind that I have not had it out of 2nd gear yet.
I will sell the car with all manuals and any spares I have around, including the software and a (new) Lenovo laptop with all the tuning files.
I have a spreadsheet with all details of parts and costs and the big items total almost $47,000.
I have full photographic records of the original car, donor car, modifications, cage build etc and I happy to make these available to any seriously interested.
I am asking $30,000 and don’t want any silly offers.
