1994 Jordan 194 Formula 1 Car - Rolling Chassis

Jordan

Model

Year
Orbost VIC, Australia
Location

A rare opportunity to acquire a piece of Formula 1 history from one of the most iconic teams from the 1990s.

This is a genuine Jordan 194 Formula 1 rolling chassis believed to have attended the 1994 Adelaide Grand Prix, the final race of what was a dramatic and unforgettable season. While its precise race history remains unverified, what is offered here is an authentic, unrestored Formula 1 chassis built by arguably the most charismatic and influential independent teams ever to compete in the sport.

This particular Jordan 194 was disposed of after the 1994 Australian Grand Prix and shipped to Melbourne, where it was repainted to resemble the livery of the later Jordan 196. It served as a display model for a period before being stored away, eventually entering long-term private ownership. It has remained in Australia for over two decades.

Despite extensive efforts, documented history linking this chassis to a specific driver or race remains elusive. However, its physical conditionโ€”complete with brake dust, trackside debris, and period-appropriate tyre wearโ€”strongly suggests that it was used in the team environment at the 1994 Adelaide GP in some way, shape or form.

Key Details

โ€ข Model: Jordan 194
โ€ข Configuration: Rolling chassis and body shell only (no engine or running gear)
โ€ข Condition: Largely original and unrestored
โ€ข Gearbox: It appears that the gearbox internals are all there. The casing on the left hand side contains the starting spline and gear selector barrel (refer image gallery).
โ€ข Notable observations:
o Underside body panel marked "02 LH"
o Front shock cover stamped "05"
o Firewall has had a hole drilled where the final chassis number digit once was
o Retains original tyres, which show track marbling and authentic wear (low air retention)
o Some small items lost over time, including wing nuts, mirrors, and a minor rear body panel section
o Engine bay still contains residual oil and fluid from 1994

The Jordan 194 was an evolution of the teamโ€™s increasingly competitive early '90s designs under technical director Gary Anderson. Piloted during the 1994 season by Rubens Barrichello and Eddie Irvine, the 194 captured multiple points finishes and was celebrated for its clean aerodynamics, tidy proportions and agility. The 194 helped cement Jordanโ€™s reputation as the team that gave young talent their shotโ€”names like Barrichello, Irvine, Frentzen, and later, Michael Schumacher all emerged through Jordanโ€™s open-door approach to rising stars.

Whether you are a serious collector, motorsport museum curator, or looking for a centrepiece restoration project, this chassis offers an extraordinary platform. In terms of the carโ€™s next chapter, the new owner has a range of directions in which to take the project: restored to 1994 specifications and liveried in its original Benson & Hedges / Sasol colours, displayed as-is to preserve its raw, end-of-era aesthetic or perhaps reimagined into a tribute to Jordan's broader history in F1.

And what about if the new owner could track down a Hart 1035 3.5L V10 engine to really bring it back to life? What an incredible experience that would be.

Included with the sale are extensive photographs, both of the car as it sits and of the Jordan team in the Adelaide paddock and pit lane, taken by the current owner in 1994. These add valuable period context and emotion to the offering.

With FIA archives or scrutineering records from the 1994 Adelaide GP, it may still be possible to confirm the complete chassis number and driver attribution - a rewarding investigation for any motorsport historian or enthusiast. Details of the technical regulations can be found here: http://www.jomenvisst.de/fia/1994TechnicalRegulations/1994_Formula_1_Technical_Regulations.htm#article6

In a time before data-driven aero dominance, the Jordan 194 stood out as a beautifully balanced, driver-focused Formula 1 car. And while its specific race pedigree may still be waiting to be rediscovered, its presence is undeniable. This is absolutely a tangible link to a golden era of F1 and it is now offered for sale ready for the next chapter of its story to be written.

Please note that transport is the responsibility of the winning bidder. Due to the carโ€™s low ride height and rigid setup, long ramps and tilt-tray transport are essential for safe loading/unloading. The dimensions of the chassis are as follows: length of 4.6m (shorter with front wing removed), width of 1.98m and a ground clearance of approximately 30mm. Finally, neither the seller nor My105 Group Pty Ltd make any claim that any particular F1 driver drove this chassis at any particular event and encourage interested parties to conduct their own due diligence and research as to the provenance and history of the car. Located in East Gippsland, Victoria, this chassis is available for inspection by arrangement.
