1996 Holden Commodore VS SL/R 5000

The Holden Commodore VS SL/R 5000 was released in August 1996 with a limited production of only 91 units as a Dealer Network initiative by Holden By Design. Of the 91 units that were released, all of were Panther Mica in colour and intended as a celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Torana SL/R 5000.

Like most Holdens and Fords from the 1990s and 2000s, any limited run cars are now becoming highly sought after. The only way to identify a genuine VS SL/R 5000 is to look for the Holden By Design build plate, affixed to the firewall of the vehicle. This vehicle is number 53 and is now being offered for sale via auction.

• 5.0L naturally aspirated V8 (recently rebuilt)
• 4 speed automatic transmission
• 16x7 VL Walkinshaw Group A style rims with Dunlop tyres
• SS-style rear wing incorporating high mounted stop lamp
• Accent Paint - silver rocker panel, front and rear fascia
• Interior Trim - Glencoe front seats. Rear seats incorporate centre arm rest and head rests, door inserts, all trimmed in Torbay velour trim

This particular example benefits from a range of recently fitted components, including starter motor, radiator (and cap), throttle position sensor, thermostat, all cooling system hoses (and clamps), water pump, voltage regulator and power steering pump.

The braking system has also been refreshed, with new disc rotors, pads and fluid.

To enhance the driving experience and allow the V8 to breathe, a 21⁄2 inch cat-back exhaust has been fitted.

The owner acknowledges that it “isn’t a show car” with a few minor cosmetic areas needing attention (small marks on the front and rear bumpers, top side of rear spoiler, clear coat on wheels) however with a small amount of effort, the car would present exceptionally well given its original, unmolested condition.

The SL/R 5000 is being sold with original delivery documentation, partial service history and logbooks.
