2012 Audi 2.0L Track Car – Giant Killer

Buderim QLD, Australia
Roll Cage

What happens when you take an Audi A1, drop in a 2.0L TFSI turbocharged engine and build what is effectively a FWD S1 with an even higher output thanks to tuning house APR? A car that delivers a huge amount of driving thrills and “bang for buck” that is off the charts.

Built by the team at Euro Car Electronics on the Sunshine Coast, this pocket rocket started life as an A1 however when the opportunity came about to install a low mileage 2.0L TSFI engine, ECU and wiring from a S1, the temptation was too great not to build this potent track weapon. So, out came the factory 1.4L 90kw motor and in went the 2.0L TSFI. And thanks to a Stage 2 tune from Audi specialists APR, the engine now puts out in excess of 330hp... more than enough for a track car of this size.

In total, over $60,000 worth of modifications and upgrades have been made to the car, the end result being an Audi that can sprint to 100km/h in under 4 seconds and – in the words of the owner – is “very hard to beat at Lakeside Raceway.”

Specifications as follows:

• 2.0L TSFI engine with less than 10,000kms
• Audi S1 6 speed manual transmission
• Audi S1 ECU and wiring
• APR Stage 2 tune
• Wagner race intercooler
• Oil catch can
• Cold air induction kit
• Upgraded large Brembo calipers
• Braided brake lines
• Bilstein B16 suspension
• Ultra Racing front and rear stabilising bars
• Custom half roll cage
• Sparco six-point harnesses
• Audi A1 Quattro Nappa leather sports seats
• Audi 18-inch alloy wheels
• 18-inch semi slick Profi tyres

From a styling perspective, the Audi wears front and rear A1 Quattro fibreglass bumpers as well as an A1 Quattro headlight with red insert. Originally painted in Merlin Purple from the factory, the Audi looks the part in its recently resprayed hue of Porsche Mexican Blue. All it needs now is some sponsorship stickers and a number on the door...

After every single event, the Audi was comprehensively checked over and serviced to ensure maximum reliability and safety. It is worth noting that the car is a statutory write-off and therefore cannot be registered (it is a dedicated track car). The professional repairs were carried out to the car by Woodriff Smash Repairs in Maroochydore who are renown for their attention to detail and quality workmanship.

Due to other commitments, the owner has decided that the Audi must now be sold. Place a bid to put yourself in the driver’s seat of a very capable and hugely rewarding race car that would put much more expensive cars to shame out on the track.
