The Surtees TS5 (Team Surtees design number 5) was the first venture into race car manufacturing for the legendary John Surtees - the only person in history to become F1 world champion on two wheels and four! By tweaking an original design from Len Terry, the cars were almost immediately successful in the hands of David Hobbs, Andrea De Adamich and Trevor Taylor on both sides of the Atlantic. David Hobbs almost winning the US title in 1969 with fours wins and two podiums in the last 7 races! He only competed in half the season. These cars were the equal to the more common McLaren M10’s of the time. Tyre sponsorship having more to do with the results than the handling of either car.

Chassis # 10 was the last TS5 constructed. It sat out the 69 season as a spare tub in the workshop of Hamilton Vose who had the license to import and sell the TS5's. I had spoken to John Martin (before his passing in 2019)who drove for Hamilton and also worked on the cars. He clearly recalled the unused tub and verified it being the same car advertised in Autoweek April 1972. The advert said the car had never been out of the workshop and was sold with a fresh Bartz injected Chev and Weismann Gearbox. I also spoke to John Surtees who was kind enough to send me some signed labels after he had verified the tub as being authentic.

The car was not purchased from Hamilton Vose until 1977 by Robert Finlayson. His sons clearly recall the vehicle and hinted their father always had way too many projects on the go at once, many never being completed or even started. Tom Snellback was the next owner. He purchased the TS5 as an unassembled unpainted original tub / Bartz engine / Weismann Gearbox and boxes of NOS and used parts. Tom Snellback had the car restored / assembled in 1989. The car ran several times at Road America during his ownership before selling to Tom Juckette in 1999 who again raced in several events at Road America in 2000 and 2001. During this time given the cars originality it was used by others as a template for their own TS5 build. Tom Juckette passed away in 2005 and I purchased the car from his widow - Linda Juckette in 2015.

I have gone though the entire car having had all parts refreshed or restored to orginal. Magnesium components crack tested / Lucas injection fully restored. The car retains its original Serck copper brass radiator / original steering wheel, brakes etc. The only non orginal parts are an MSD ignition box, electric Smiths Tachometer and low rear wing - although the design is 100% period correct for after they banned the upright mounted high wings in 1970.

Since completion I have run the car only twice. A practice day to shake down the car and driver, followed by lunch time display laps at a local historic meeting. All up the car has seen less than two hrs track time.

Comes with a spare set of wheels, a folder of receipts dating back to 1976 and proof of uninterrupted ownership. The period magazines, signed and dated labels from John Surtees will also be included.
