Historic Formula Ford Van Diemen RF88 Chassis 1267

A Formula Ford classic, this Van Diemen RF88 is without question one of the most beautifully presented examples in the country. Originally campaigned in the UK by Kurt Luby, this RF88 was later raced in the New England, Milwaukee and the New York SCCA series from 1995 to 2004. It then moved to Florida, where it was rebuilt and competed in motorkhana events until 2019. After this point, the car was put into storage, until its current owner acquired it in 2023. Once in Australia the restoration process kicked off. In the words of the owner “whatever it needed was either rebuilt or replaced” which is clearly evidenced by referencing the car’s photo gallery.

Restoration Overview:
• Chassis & Bodywork: Chassis has been stripped and front bulkhead resprayed. Bodywork stripped to the glass, repaired and resprayed in period-correct livery (2011).
• Engine: Fully stripped, measured and found to be in near-new condition; new gapped piston rings installed.
• Drivetrain: New balanced flywheel and clutch. Gearbox has been stripped, measured to be within factory specs.
• Suspension: Wide-track RF89 front suspension for improved handling. New front uprights and wheel bearings.
• Ignition & Electronics: Rev-limited electronic ignition system.
• Hydraulics: All components replaced or overhauled.
• Safety & Compliance: Brand-new fuel tank bladder, seat belts and fire extinguisher.
• Tyres have only been used for three races

Not only does the Van Diemen look the part but it has the performance to match too. The car won the Morgan Park Historics in October 2024 and finished on the podium at the SMSP Classic in June 2024.
