This is your last chance to buy my 1979 Mazda 323 (Rear Wheel Drive) IPRA Improved Production car (3J rules). This will be the final price drop before the car gets disassembled and parted out, as the parts alone are worth far more than the asking price.

Recently finished 12th in the 2022 Nationals after starting 32nd and last on the grid (https://youtu.be/1DsazXuHCBc) and given more time and/or a better starting position, a top 10 was definitely on the cards.

This car has been hand built by an experienced racer from the ground up with the best of everything. It has only four race meetings (including the Nationals) since completion, and is showing amazing potential as we progress with improved chassis tuning. If you are considering building your own EM turbo IP car, look no further.

Here is a summary of the build sheet:

Chassis:
Clean, straight, rust-free 2-door Mazda 323 RWD shell (with compliance tags - can be re-registered if desired).

Full CAMS-approved custom welded cage through to the towers by Craig Wildridge
Custom, fully adjustable (bump/rebound) suspension by Greg Nolan (Suspension Concepts)
S14/15 front upright conversion
Custom 4-link rear end by RaceProducts, Craig Wildridge, and Craft Diffs - including full cambered floating rear axles
RaceProducts in-car screw-adjustable Watts Link
RaceProducts 28 spline axles
OS Giken 28 spline LSD with solid pinion spacer, set up by Hornsby Diffs

Cosmetically fair - it is a race car and has a few small dings and scratches - but nothing serious.

Fuel system is Aeromotive and Bosch 044-based with surge tank, twin filters, and full E85-compatible teflon lines from tank to rail.

I could go on, but you get the idea. Best quality parts have been used throughout with no expense spared.

Apart from chassis tuning, the only real development area for the car is the transmission. I had been waiting on the possible sequential transmission rule change so in the interim, the car is running a Getrag G260 5 speed transmission through a KMiata adapter plate and flywheel/clutch, with a custom Gibson driveshaft.

The car has been built to be fast, reliable, and easy to live with. As I built it, I knew I’d have to work on it so I made choices that would make this easier. It weighs around 920kg ready to race, with 10L of fuel. As a 2 door with rearward seat position, it comfortably seats larger drivers and is easy to get in and out of.

I have spent over 5 years and stupid amounts of money and time building this car.

Price includes a spare freshly built floating axle diff casing with all necessary mountings and flanges (over $2000 value) and one set of wheels, ready to race. If you can find a clean 2 door 323 and build it for twice that, you are a better person than I am.

I also have a massive amount of spares which I’d be prepared to negotiate the sale of with the car, including spare doors, panels, complete 4 door shells, wheels, control arms, fibreglass moulds, springs, steering box, drop spindles, etc etc.. I will not separate these unless the car sells without them though.

After 4 race meetings, we feel we have worked out the car’s bugs and have just started to scratch the surface with chassis tuning. The the car is getting closer but still not in the window. It has massive potential and I’m happy to work with the new owner to get it where it needs to be.

Genuine reason for sale - the Spud will be missed!

ROLLING CHASSIS:

Will consider offers for the rolling chassis for a possible engine/rotor swap (and/or other options) at the right price point.
