I.D.S. – IAN (I.B.) DAVIS SPECIAL

Based on the Matich and McLaren sports cars of the era, Ian Davis built the I.D.S. in 1973 and raced it very successfully from 1975 to 1985 at A.I.R. and Mallala.
Sold in 1986 to Peter Whitbread of the Shell Garage Hawthorn who continued this cars great race winning record with 6 first placings in 1986 and 4 first placings in 1987. It was the fastest Rotary powered car in S.A. at the time holding the lap record at Mallala for under 3 Litres set on Sunday March 15th 1987 in 1 minute 13.9 seconds.
The I.D.S. has been taken back to its original 1973 specs with a fully tuned Toyota Celica engine and Hewland transaxle to comply with eligibility for Group Q Historic Racing and Sports Cars 1970 – 1977. The front body and tail frames have been totally repaired and the whole exterior reskinned in superbly polished aluminium. A new undertray, rewiring, re-trimming and complete restoration of two sets of Randy’s wheels completed the project.
Ian Davis has assisted with the provision of his original drawings, racing photographs and his full endorsement of what has been done to bring this historic vehicle back to life.
Resplendent in SHELL racing livery the I.D.S. is now ready for the next owner and chapter in its life. A custom designed and built retro styled trailer to fit the 6-foot-wide by 12-foot-long I.D.S. comes with the car. The package is completed by two sets of wheels and some hard to find spares and is offered at $45,000 o.n.o.
