This car chassis number 1249 was the yellow prototype for the 1988 Van Diemen with Allan McNish involved in the development. It was then a works car for Van Diemen in 1988 with the Duckham’s oil yellow and blue livery.
The car was raced by Derek Higgins and won the 1988 ESSO FF1600 and British RAC FF600 Championships. It was third in the 1988 Formula Ford Festival, number 47. In 1990 and again in 1991 driven by John Thompson it won the Western Canadian Canon/Yokohama Formula Ford Championship.
A full restoration has been carried out. New bonded aluminium floor with aircraft rivets. The chassis has been made good and trued and then powder coated. Paul Liston of Listec has overhauled and restored the magnesium bell housing and Hewland gearbox. The gear linkage has new universal joints. The car has new Bilstein shock absorbers from URS in the UK and new springs. New front suspension push rods. There is a new aluminium fuel tank with safety foam. A new nose box and battery.
The brake calipers have new pistons, seals, race brake pads and a new brake balance mechanism. There are new master cylinders for the brakes and clutch.
The new lightweight bodywork in Oxford Blue is from URS in the UK.
The new race motor has been built by Wayne Smith. There is a new ceramic coated exhaust system and new starter motor.
The Weller wheels are new and have four new tyres.
The car has an Historic Group Fc COD and log book.
The car has been finally assembled and set up for racing by Tim Beale of Anglo Motorsport.
No expense has been spared in the restoration of this car. It has the potential to be a front runner as has been demonstrated in recent historic events by its sister 1988 works Van Diemen.
