1975 CAE Sprint Car

The late Gerry Clarke began racing sprint-cars in 1970, first racing a side-plate Holden. He was a pioneer for the sport in Tasmania. The car on display was originally built in 1975 and is powered by a 250 cubic inch Ford inline-six, with a 2-valve head and Hilborn fuel injection. Hand-operated rear brakes, and an in-and-out gearbox are also fitted to the car. It has now been restored to the state in which it was campaigned by Gerry Clarke, who won the 1976 Tasmanian Title in this car, and held the lap record at the Carrick Speedway. In 1979, the car was sold and further modified, with a turbocharger being fitted at some stage to further enhance performance. Sadly, Gerry passed away in 1991. The restoration process was finished in 1999, the restoration being completed by Bob McLachlan of Bomac racing. It has since been displayed at car shows and sprint events.

This is a unique piece of speedway history and must be sold. The car comes with many spares as well as Gerry Clark's driving suit, helmet and two engine blocks. This is a reluctant sale however it is now time for this beautiful car to be passed on to the next custodian.

The car is currently on display at the National Automobile Museum of Tasmania for anyone interested in an inspection prior to the auction closing.
