Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.5-16V Cosworth – Rare Homologation Special

A rare opportunity to acquire one of Mercedes-Benz's most iconic homologation specials, this 190E 2.5-16 Cosworth combines genuine motorsport pedigree, exceptional provenance and comprehensive history in a highly collectible package.

Developed during the late 1980s, the 190E 16-valve program was originally intended as Mercedes-Benz's challenger to the Audi Quattro in international rallying. To achieve its performance goals, Mercedes commissioned Cosworth Engineering to develop the twin-cam, 16-valve cylinder head for the M102 engine. As the dominance of Audi's quattro four-wheel-drive system became apparent, Mercedes redirected the project to touring car racing, where the 190E would become the foundation of its legendary DTM campaign and cement its place in motorsport history.

This particular example was ordered new in the United Kingdom by a prominent Sydney doctor and privately imported into Australia when new. It is accompanied by its original purchase invoice, import documentation and an outstanding history file. Pre-delivery preparation and initial servicing were carried out by Marshall Motors, Parramatta, with ongoing servicing undertaken in Sydney throughout the original ownership.

The car has recently undergone a comprehensive mechanical recommissioning, with careful attention paid to preserving its originality. Works include a full cylinder head service, suspension overhaul, brake refurbishment, engine servicing and exhaust system work. It remains true to its original factory specification and performs exactly as these cars should.

Accompanying the vehicle are its original service books, owner's manuals, spare keys and a comprehensive portfolio of maintenance records documenting its history and long-term care. It has clearly benefited from meticulous ownership throughout its life and presents and drives accordingly.

With just 5,743 examples produced worldwide, the 190E 2.5-16 Cosworth is becoming increasingly difficult to source, particularly in this condition and with such outstanding provenance. Whether you're looking for a significant addition to a Mercedes-Benz collection, a homologation-era performance icon or a rewarding analogue driver's car, this example ticks every box.

The vehicle is currently registered in New South Wales on Historic Vehicle (Club) registration and can be returned to full registration if desired.

Inspections are welcomed and encouraged.
