2008 Ford XR4 - ST150 Close to showroom condition
Yes, only 26,584Km. No, that's not a typo.
The car is very close to showroom condition. It still smells “showroom”.
For those not familiar, Drive Team once said “The beauty of the XR4 is its completeness as an entertaining package - trading outright speed for eager responsiveness and a nimble persona”. Car Advice said: “As a driver's car, not much comes close for the money”.
History starts to unfold at this point. Many view cars of this era as “golden”. They were very good at what they did, due to chassis dynamics – not complex electronics. As such, they are regarded as durable in the longer term. If you want a car that you can drive like a go-kart though twisty roads in hills terrain, this may be what you are looking for?
The car is absolutely stock (except for custom XR4 decals on the sides). Back in 2008, my No.2 son finished a double degree and I gave him a budget and told him to buy a car. At that time, we had been go-kart racing for 5 years and circuit racing for 2 years.
He came back with an XR4 and suggested I drive it. I could not believe how engaging it was to drive. We went to the dealer, found the salesman and said we’ll take a second one please. Dealer entered gob-smacked mode.
It generally only got driven on nice days. It has never been raced, or used in competition. It was for pure driving pleasure on twisty roads where terrain really allows enjoyment of the chassis & suspension.
It has always been garaged and cherished.
More recently, as motorsport became a bigger part of my life, it was de-registered and parked up in my race workshop, but still treasured, maintained and protected.
Now, the plan is to re-register it for sale.
I’m nearly 69 YO, (still racing) but time to move on... AI searches indicate good example XR4’s are very rare, with normal good ‘uns worth $12-$15K. But a 26,000Km one? Find it if you can? These are probably on the verge of becoming collectable. Unobtanium status may be close.
No tyre kickers please. This is a long-term sale to the right person.
