Honda Generator - standby 240V power

This generator is a 5 KVA, 240V, Honda EG5500CXS, petrol driven, with 8 hour duration, and 12 volt electric start.

The Monitor and Controller is a POWERGUARD, a separate but connected device, and must be installed by a qualified Electrician.

This generator and controller configuration was originally designed to manage an uninterrupted power supply to 40 computerised devices in a 24/7 mini data centre.

Fortunately, in a 12 year period it was only used once in anger, for a period of 4 hours.

The Monitor detects the absence of incoming or fluctuations of the 240 volt mains power to the room requiring power protection, the Controller isolates the existing room circuits, starts the generator, and provides generator supplied stable 240 volts to the various UPS devices and critical equipment. The Controller then rings a preset phone number to deliver advice of the generator start up. At the point that the generator has consumed 50% of the fuel tank contents, it rings the preset phone number and advises of this condition. A similar automated phone call takes place when either the system has automatically switched back to mains power or the generator is about to run out of fuel. This system has worked faultlessly on monthly validation testing, with the only attention required being the replacement of the 12 volt external 12volt starter motor battery.
