A genuine piece of Australian circuit racing history, this 1964 Chevrolet Nova is a serious, well-built race car with proven pedigree and fresh mechanical strength where it counts. As you can see from the image gallery, the Nova presents in excellent condition and – a testament to its provenance – it has been very well engineered throughout. Importantly, this Nova is an ex-Garry Brown car, with Brown having claimed the 2002 Queensland State Championship in it. That provenance speaks volumes about the engineering and setup behind the car, making it not just quick, but properly sorted.

Vehicle details:

• 1964 Chevrolet Nova
• Logbook Number: H075 (Historic)
• Logbook Category: 5
• Group: Nb
• Date of Issue: 13/8/99

Held by the current owner for the past 15 years, this Nova has been carefully maintained and continually developed, culminating in a purpose-built package that blends period-correct character with highly capable performance. At its core is a freshly built 327ci V8 that has never been raced, representing a substantial $25,000 investment in engine development. The combination is engineered to deliver in excess of 500 horsepower at the rear wheels, making it a formidable contender in any historic or club-level racing field.

Fuel delivery is handled by a Holley 650 double pumper, feeding a combination that breathes through hand-built extractors and is supported by a Moroso accumulator system for reliable oil pressure under sustained high-load conditions. Cooling is equally well addressed with an aluminium crossflow triple-core radiator, ensuring consistent temperatures during extended track sessions.

Power is transferred through a 4-speed Muncie close-ratio gearbox paired with a single-plated clutch, delivering sharp, direct engagement. Out back, a welded differential provides maximum traction and predictable behaviour under acceleration. True to its era and race setup, the car runs drum brakes, maintaining its period authenticity while still delivering effective stopping power (a brake setup that was good enough for Brown to win the state championship!).

Inside the Nova, the attention to detail is evident: driver and passenger SAAS seats, a Sparco harness, SAAS steering wheel and full complement of gauges make it a very nice place to be. The steel roll cage has been expertly fabricated and not only keeps the driver safe but also adds additional rigidity to the car’s chassis.

Included with the sale are two additional sets of 14-inch rims, along with a brand new 1963 grille and headlight surrounds. Should the new owner desire, they have the option to convert the car to road-going specification however we tend to think it should remain as a race car to be enjoyed to its fullest potential out at the track.

Whichever way you look at it, this is an exceptional opportunity to acquire a turn-key historic race car with genuine credentials, fresh mechanicals, and serious performance. Whether you’re looking to compete, collect, or enjoy high-performance track days in a proven package, this Nova stands out as a compelling and well-documented example.
