I have owned this Elan for 32 years and it has been in rebuild for most of that time. Licenced 5 years ago and travelled 1,500 miles since.
Rebuild included:
Body off.
Frame cleaned, straightened and repairs made, strengthening put in place (similar to that of a Elan 26r), repainted in an epoxy undercoat and enamel top coat.
Adjustable suspension including shocks, ride height, camber and rear toe.
Reconditioned steering rack.
All rubber bushes replaced with poly bushes.
Upgraded brakes including 4 pot front callipers and floating discs. Original brake callipers come with car.
Minilite 13” centre lock wheels and near new tyres, including spare, compact jack and Thor hammer.
Body was repaired and Elan 26r wheel arches attached as well as 26r fixed head lights and 26r front and rear bumpers.
Paint is two pack 1⁄4 Pepper White (old English white) with no clear coat.
New band tinted front windscreen and plexiglass door windows. Original glass comes with car.
New dash top, under dash trims, pillars and black carpet. The original seats were re foamed and sprung and upholstered in red Alcantara.
Dash is bur Elm but was completed about 28 years ago and is showing its age.
E Nardi in period steering wheel.
Safety Devices roll over and intrusion bars. Retractable seat belts.
Engine has forged crank, rods and pistons. Dave Bean cams, springs and valves. Rebuilt port and polished head.
Capacity is 1720 cm by way of short block and long stroke crank.
Electronic distributor and an aluminium radiator and header tank.
Approximately 140 to 150 hp at fly wheel.
Rebuilt Weber 40 DCOE 18 carbs re jetted to suit larger capacity and overlapping cams.
Aluminium fuel tank with Aston Martin style fuel filler cap.
TTRacing exhaust manifold and rear muffler.
Rebuilt 5 speed gearbox and concentric clutch slave. Original 4 speed gear box comes with car.
Rebuilt diff with Quaife LSD.
Currently has Elan 26r style slip joint drive shafts, Original donut shafts come with the car.
Electrics rebuilt including new upgraded fuse box and relays for all high current services.
Refurbished Lucas 40 amp alternator and new pre engaged starter.
LED parking, indicator and brake lights.
New Everflex hood and full tonneau.
Floor and boot mats.
Engineers certificate. Full licence but on club concession.
Workshop and parts manuals, instructions and nearly all invoices for work going back to 1970 and importation.
This is a lovely car to drive. The engine is very torquey and pulls easily from 1500 revs in 4th gear.
The best handling car of it’s time. Handling is neutral to a bit of oversteer.
The reupholstered seats and a small adjustment to the driver’s seat frame give a very comfortable seating position for over 6 footers, but you do need to not be on the weighty side, as with all Elans.
Best thing is the exhaust note and induction roar at 3000 rpm and above. You will never listen to the radio while driving.
Moving to a smaller residence with less parking so something has to go.
Plates do not come with the car.
