“We stopped counting at 4,000 hours.”

As far as restomod Mustangs go, this would have to be one of the absolute best in the country, if not on an international level. A labour of love built by the team at Stevens and Brennan Automotive, the plate in the engine bay says it all: heart, body and soul. This really is a very special Mustang.

Fully engineered and NSW-registered, the 1968 model Ford Mustang runs a supercharged 5.0L Windsor engine with GT40 heads (the engine is the same specification as the Tickford TE50 with a high-volume sump) mated to a Tremec TKO500 five speed gearbox. A nine-inch limited slip differential has been installed for additional strength.

Engine management is taken care of by a Motec M800 with original Ford sensors. The Whipple twin-screw supercharger (Kenne Bell kit) takes care of forced induction, and a custom multi-rib drive belt system runs the alternator, power steering pump and air conditioning.

The body underwent a bare metal rotisserie preparation process prior to painting whereby any rust was removed and the chassis modifications were carried out. The body was seam welded and new doors, front mudguards and headlight assemblies were fitted before painting. The chassis was strengthened with boxed subframe connectors, strut tower braces, boot chassis to parcel shelf braces and sill panel to subframe braces. A flat, custom firewall was fabricated and welded-in for the conversion to right hand drive.

The Mustang’s suspension system has also been upgraded with Macpherson struts at the front and heavy-duty leaf springs in the rear. SuperPro bushes have been installed throughout and sports four-wheel disc brakes. The car runs a rack and pinion steering system and sits on 17x8 Showwheels “Streeters” at the front and 18x8 on the rears. The wheels are shod in near new Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tyres for maximum performance and driver dynamics (225/45/17 front and 245/45/18 rear).

Inside the cabin, the Mustang boasts a fully customised interior with Recaro front seats, bespoke dash (with VDO gauges) and a Kenwood/Clarion sound system. Power windows have been installed, as well as cruise control, custom A/C and heating controls and push button start. Suffice to say, sitting behind the wheel is a very, very nice place to be.

A spares package is included with the sale, consisting of a new radiator, new right hand drive instrument bezel, a clutch master cylinder, two ignition coils, starter motor, power steering pump and two new door mirrors. A CTEK smart battery charger has been installed in order to preserve battery life when the car is not in use.

This is a very regretful sale however the owner acknowledges that it is time to hand over the keys to its next custodian to enjoy. Since first registration in 2011, the car has travelled a mere 19,228 kilometres and should the new owner reside in New South Wales, a roadworthy certificate will be provided upon sale.

Make no mistake about it, the car was built to be driven and – in the words of the seller – “if you enjoy driving for the sake of driving, you will get out of this car with a smile on your face every single time.”
