This Mallock U2 was built under license in New Zealand in 1969 using all the usual components. It raced successfully for 10 years when it was purchased by a prominent racer/constructor as a base for a sports racing car to compete in the SCANZ national sports car championship during the 1980's. It was a very competitive car winning 5 championships and holding lap records at every circuit. The car was then retired and stayed with the owner/driver until the late 90's when a comprehensive restoration was undertaken to restore it to its championship condition.
The car has some impressive engineering for its day
The original mallock chassis was updated to Mk12 to handle the increase in HP. The engine was replaced with a Lotus Twin Cam with fuel injection and a Turbocharger with intercooler. (approx 300BHP) The Gearbox is an Alfa Romeo 105 5 speed. Front Brakes are McLaren F1 Girling disks and calipers The rear brakes are Brabham F1 disks and calipers. The oil system is dry sump. It has two sets of Brabham F1 wheels with unused slicks and wets.
The car has to be seen to appreciate the amount of development that was done to give this car the power and performance that made it a championship winning car. It has a very comprehensive history with every race documented.
