Vehicle is a 1970 Fiat124BC coupe, fully stripped out for motorsport. It has been used in hillclimbs, timed sprints, motorkhana and recently social GEAR meetings at Lakeside, QR and Morgan Park. It has competed at the Fiat Nationals in other states, the last being at The Bend in South Australia. A CAMS Historic Vehicle Log Book # H1852 is provided. Due to the type of events this owner undertook, it was not used.
Under the fibreglass bonnet is a 4 cyl 1756cc twin overcam Fiat motor, fed by twin Weber IDF40 carbies. It has high compression pistons and stock cams. A 123 Ignition solid state distributor and Bosch coil provide the spark and scavenger headers remove the exhaust gases. To assist with good oil circulation during competition, a 3lt Accusump unit is fitted, controlled by the driver. A custom air box feeds the carbies, via a scoop in the bonnet. Fuel is supplied from a stock tank, high delivery electric pump and Italian pressure regulator. Cooling is via a stock radiator, with a OEM fan, controlled by the radiator switch and also by the driver. A home made oil catch can is fitted. An oil cooler is fitted in front of the radiator.
Inside, there is a single Sparco race seat, 5 point race harness, fire extinguisher and battery. A CAMS registered full roll cage (# 30908) is fitted. There is a Kill Switch for all electrical supplies on the dash, this being also controlled by a cable outside in front of the driver. There are two additional switches for fuel pump and ignition. Instruments include a mph speedo, tacho, oil pressure, oil temperature, coolant temperature and fuel gauge. Two warning lights show high coolant temperature and low oil pressure. As mentioned earlier, the Accusump is controlled by a pull cable in front of the driver. There is a switch for the radiator fan and the ignition uses a Fiat key and barrel. A second Sparco seat is available.
The tyres are Toyo R888R type, tread fair. The wheels are Globe alloy, 13". A wheel alignment will be required. All suspension bushes are poly and the shocks are Koni Yellows. The body was seam welded and there are a few rust bubbles in places. A Queensland Transport Modification Plate, allowing 2 seats, is attached, possibly allowing some form of road registration.
This a fun car to drive and, with a new owner, could reach higher results. It is one of only a few 124 coupes fully equipped for motorsport. It is located west of Brisbane, near the town of Esk.
