Newly available for purchase is this mighty Vic Elford McLaren M8E. A brutally fast machine, even by today’s standards. This is chassis number M8E-80-04, built by Trojan Ltd. Originally purchased by Roy Woods Racing Inc (US) to compete in the 1971 Cam-Am Series, this car went onto compete in 8 of the 10 rounds, most notably taking a podium finish at Road America and multiple top 5 finishes throughout the season. Vic Elford campaigned the majority of the season, however, an accident at Laguna Seca, round 9 of the championship, left Vic Elford with minor injuries and the team with a wrecked car. With just six weeks to the next and final round of the championship, the Roy Woods Racing team replaced the chassis and had the car back on track with Sam Posey behind the wheel at Riverside.

After the 1971 season the car was sold to William ‘Bill’ Cuddy and went onto compete in the Can-Am series on and off until the end of 1977, when it was then sold to another owner. Over the cars life it has been owned by a total of 6 different parties. It has a full racing history, along with certification documents, a Motorsport Australia ‘Certificate of Description’ (COD) and a large spares package.

Currently, the car is located in Queensland, Australia, owned by Peter Jones. In 2020 and 2022, the car made on track appearances at the Phillip Island Classic and the Sydney World Time Attack Challenge. Driven by Peters son and professional Porsche Supercup driver, Harri Jones, the car was demonstrated in all of its glory, providing spectators and onlookers a taste of the 1970s Cam-Am era. Onboard footage from these events can be found on YouTube.

This car is beautifully presented and has been meticulously maintained by Jones Motorsport since purchase in 2019. Get in touch with the team today and lock in your chance to own this piece of history.
