1983 Tiga-Mazda, Historic Group R

In it's original configuration this car won the UK Sports 2000 Series, driven by Ian Taylor.
The rolling chassis was imported into Australia in 1982 and modified to run in the 1983 Australian Sports Car Championship.
A new FT-200 and a "270 bhp" Mazda Rotary 12A PP were installed along with wider wheels and larger brakes.
The unsorted car was driven by Richard Warland at Sandown, AIR and Amaroo, it was fast but unreliable. Next driven by John Smith at Oran Park, John won one heat and very competitive in the other, but DNF.
In the next round at Winton John drove again and was very competitive but a jammed throttle caused a DNF and minor concussion to John.
Ken Stratton purchased the damaged car and with help from the TIGA factory rebuilt the car over many years.
Next appearance was at Mallala in February 2017. Some of the parts Ken fitted were stronger rear axles, new KONI double acting dampers, new Peterson scavenge pump.
In 2021, I purchased the partly dismantled car from Ken's estate, and have since given it a thorough rebuild including a fresh John Perkins engine (only two hours running time), new suspension links, new wiring loom, new braided brake lines, improved lubrication system and cooling system.
The FT-200 was stripped and found in very good condition, I fitted new dog rings, reverse lockout and a new 19/23 gear. New front outer rims and AVON tyres, rear tyres are good. Spares include body molds, gears, suspension jigs, 3 wheels and an enclosed tilt trailer to suit the car.
I last drove the car at the Mallala Historic Meeting in April 2026, completed about 30 laps. This is a quick car and ready to race.
