Genuine 1995 RocketSports Chevrolet Camaro RS17

Ex Bruce Jenner Racing | Motorsport NZ COD & NZ Log Book | Australian CAMS Log Book | Extensive Spares Package

Offered for sale is RocketSports chassis RS17, a genuine 1995 RocketSports-built Chevrolet Camaro constructed for Bruce Jenner Racing and subsequently campaigned in New Zealand and Australia in ThunderSports and Trans-Am competition.

Supported by its original Motorsport NZ log book, Motorsport NZ Certificate of Description, Australian CAMS ThunderSports Certificate of Description, period magazine articles, race photography and extensive historical documentation, RS17 represents an exceptionally rare opportunity to acquire one of the most significant and best-documented historic race cars in New Zealand.

Originally owned by Bruce Jenner Racing, the car was built by the renowned RocketSports Racing organisation in the United States before arriving in New Zealand in late 1995. Documentation identifies the chassis as RS17, with Bruce Jenner Racing recorded as the original owner and applicant on the CAMS Certificate of Description.

Over the following years the car competed throughout New Zealand, appearing at circuits including Pukekohe, Manfeild, Ruapuna, Teretonga and Levels, with continuous documented history supported by its original Motorsport NZ log book.

During its competition life RS17 was driven by a number of well-known drivers including Chris Kneifel, Steven Johnson, Dick Johnson, Bernie Gillon, Heather Spurle, Ian Spurle and Mark Porter, before entering long-term ownership with Paul Williams around 2000, where it has remained for over two decades.

Throughout its life the car has retained its original RocketSports identity, evolving only through livery changes and a later rear wing update. It is recognised through its Purple Hoosier, ENZED / Noel Leeming and Morris Lubricants liveries, while remaining fundamentally the same RocketSports-built chassis.

Why This Car?

RocketSports Camaros with documented provenance rarely become available, particularly examples supported by original Motorsport NZ and CAMS documentation, continuous log book history and long-term family ownership.

Rather than being restored or recreated, RS17 has remained a genuine competition car with documented history stretching from Bruce Jenner Racing through to its current ownership, accompanied by one of the most comprehensive spares packages likely to be offered with a historic Trans-Am car.

Whether destined for historic competition, demonstration events or a significant private collection, this represents an opportunity to acquire an authentic RocketSports-built Chevrolet Camaro with exceptional provenance and extensive supporting documentation.

Inspection welcomed.
