I’ve owned this vehicle for over 20 years and selfishly not done anything with it , time for a full restoration and return to the track after a 50 year absence . Was built in 1966 as Chimaera Mk 3 with BMC B series engine and cigar shaped body and raced by Frank Brewster. Peter Turner bought it in 1967 , renamed it Grantinni and upgraded to a larger capacity B series engine and raced at Templestowe , Calder , Hume Weir and Winton before rebuilding the car in 1969 with new rear bodywork and a Holden 6 cylinder engine . Recollections from former Head Mod staff suggest the car was used as a test mule for a 161 engine (that they had easy access to) with various cylinder head and carburettor configurations used . A new log book was applied for . A copy of original application to CAMS and photocopies of log book entries were sent to me in 2001/2 after having the car inspected by then Group O eligibility officer Brian Beasey. The vehicle will require verification & inspection to have a certificate of description issued prior to restoration. It currently has a 186 cid engine with extensive head work and triple 2” SU carburettors, spares include a 161cid short block and spare Triumph Herald front suspension . Peter Turner built his subsequent Grantinni 3B in 1971 and that car has raced successfully for many years incorporating lessons no doubt learned from this cars swing axle rear end and rear drum brakes.
