This is the second Sylva track car that I imported from the UK and built here in Perth while acting as the Australian Sylva Autokits agent between 2008 and 2014. The first build was a bright orange Sylva Riot, now owned by a very happy second owner that can verify the reliability and quality of the first car.

This second car, known as a Sylva J15 is essentially the same chassis as the Sylva Riot but has more triangulated structure along the sides to support the more streamlined GRP body. The car is small and light but it still fits me comfortably at 6’ tall and a bit wider than I should be. The driver’s seat is adjustable in length for shorter legs.

It was never my intension to sell this car so I didn’t take any shortcuts during the build. The powdercoated steel chassis had all the drilled rivet holes treated with red oxide paint before the alloy panels were glued on with Sikaflex 252 and the alloy rivets coated in Duralac yellow anti-corrosive paste. Similarly all the quality components of this car were fitted using the best engineering practices.

Originally registered with a 1.6L Ford engine a unique opportunity came up to buy a brand new 2L Ford Duratec engine in 2016. So an engine swap was done that included machining and lightening the steel flywheel, adding a new Helix clutch and importing a Quaife LSD. With this 2L engine upgrade the drivetrain is essentially the same as a Ford XR4 Fiesta. The engine remains stock internally but with throttle bodies for induction and a freer flowing exhaust it is currently producing a very reliable 180HP and makes fantastic noises.

Having such a good power/weight ratio and exceptional handling this car has the potential to be at the top of the timesheets at any track day. It makes a great road/race car – being seriously quick (quicker than me...) with lots of development left in it if desired. Because of the fastidious attention to detail during its build this is a consistently reliable car. It has the look of a 60’s classic with the reliability and performance of a new car.

Optionally there are two sets of alloy wheels and a purpose built alloy trailer that may be included in the sale. On its trailer the tow weight is under 1000kg, which means it can be towed easily by many standard cars.

Because of recent changes in life I have unexpectedly decided to let someone else appreciate the fun this car provides. Call me for more details (there are lots available). I am looking for offers around $40000.
