With a 1990s movie portfolio that would put Tom Hanks to shame, the Lamborghini Diablo became the ‘it’ car of the decade. Wherever it went it was admired and whoever was seen in it, well, they had made it. But there was one version of the Diablo that was a little more daring than the others, the rear-wheel-drive 5.7, V12 Diablo. First contemplated in 1985 as a successor to the Countach (another vehicle with a strong film presence) Project 132 had a one-line brief – the car must have a top speed

A long time coming With the introduction of the 550 Maranello in 1996, Ferrari revived a configuration not seen since the 1973 Daytona 365GTB. Ferrari had long had a 12 cylinder coupe, however strange as it may seem, none had combined a V12, front engine and 2 seats, it was always two of three, but never the classic combination of the legendary 365. Immediately recognisable as a Ferrari, that gorgeous body was the work of legendary design house Pininfarina who executed both the exterior and in

The 40 valve 3.5 litre V8 rocked the motoring world when it was released with many people considering it to have one of the most extraordinary engine notes of any production car before or since. Producing some 280kw at a screaming 8500rpm, the F355 was light years on in performance, driveability and appeal over the outgoing 348. The Spider version brought that incredible engine just a bit closer to the occupants with the swift-acting retractable roof. Produced in considerably lower production nu

In April 1995, HSV launched the new generation VS range, which at the time, represented the pinnacle of Australian sports motoring. The HSV VS GTS was the flagship performance model of HSV (except VS GTS/R) and came with a six-speed manual or optional four-speed automatic. The VS Series GTS retained the same Holden 5.7-litre stroked engine producing 215kw as used in the VR GTS. This motor had its debut in the VR series of HSV sedans. It was a bored and stroked version of the Holden (304ci 5.0 li

The AMC Javelin is an American front-engine, rear-wheel-drive, two-door hardtop automobile manufactured by American Motors Corporation (AMC) across two generations, 1968 through 1970 and 1971 through 1974 model years. The 1972 model year Javelins featured a new “egg crate” front grille design with a similar pattern repeated on the chrome overlay over the full-width taillights. The AMX version continued with the flush grille. A total of 15 exterior colours were offered with optional side stripes.

This Mercedes AMG C63 is in excellent condition inside and out and not modified in any way. It has always been garaged and lived a pampered life by all of its owners and has always been serviced by Mercedes Benz until current and has only travelled just over 79,000 kilometers. It also comes with two keys, logbooks and purchase certificate from 2014. The Mercedes has never been on the track. Being a 507 Edition also adds to the desirability of this model along with the fact it is the last of the

Building an incredible reputation that stretches all the way back to Bruce McLarens first success is Formula 1 at just 22 years old (a record at the time). The best sports saloon....ever Commencing production in 2021 and listing a raft of improvements over the already astonishingly capable M5 Competition, the M5 CS fast became THE ultimate M-Car and global production sold out instantly. Every single one of the only 20 allocated to Australia was snapped up as soon as BMW confirmed availability in our market. Fortunately the car lived up to the hype with the CS being even that much better than the Competition on which it was further honed and revise

This GTS-R W1 is everything any Holden fan wants to own. The looks, sound and performance are all perfectly matched to one another and are hard to beat as far as collectability goes in the HSV range. Starting with the astonishing Spitfire colour to the ground shaking LS9 supercharged engine this car does not disappoint. The subtle “W1” badging gives off a hint of subtleness and so too do the huge Black 20” wheels. Originally offered in only eight colours, this one would have to be one of the bes

Beauty in the details There are few cars that have a design feature that is as recognisable as the car itself, and probably none more-so than the 1955 300SL coupe with its Gullwing doors. The Mercedes SLR McLaren was the first car to pay a homage to this feature, however it was the Mercedes-AMG SLS that is a true successor to the 300SL, and made it a defining feature that drastically carved the car out from the others of its era. The first standalone car that was not based on a production mod

The Bat for The Batman Some Lamborghinis are famously named after famous Spanish Fighting Bulls, and this car was certainly named for one of the greats. Named “Murcielago” (Spanish for “Bat”), the first clean sheet design in over 11 years was worthy of being named after the legendary bull that survived a brutal fight in 1879 with such passion and spirit to captivate the audience and be given the honour of retiring and being a leading sire A huge leap-forward in design, ergonomics and performa

The most beautiful car in the world. That's what “Il Commendatore” Enzo Ferrari said of the E-Type. Compliments don’t come any higher as this was from a man who was famously callous and dismissive of other manufacturers. Having looked over every inch of this stunning 1972 E-Type V12 Convertible, we tend to agree. If you needed any further convincing of this car’s style and pedigree, you must only look to a list of people who have at one time or another owned an E-Type. From Frank Sinatra and B

At CHROME TEMPLE we feel the the ingredients for collecting success need not be many. Complementing fire breathing high capacity engines and analogue driving characteristics should be strong provenance and true scarcity. With just 100 units produced globally (rarely will you find such a low production number across any marque) to celebrate 50 years of Lamborghini and the most successful model to date, this last of the line Gallardo was the culmination of the very best aspects of the Gallardo.

An Exercise in Excess Just occasionally a car gets made to celebrate what can be done when a bunch of engineers get together and tear up the rule book. With the impending move towards electrification and hybridisation, the boffins at Aston Martin huddled together and talked in hushed tones about the idea of taking the mega twin-turbo 5.2 litre V12 from the DBS Superleggera and shoehorning it into the smallest car they make, the Vantage. What we ended up with after countless hours and millions

Born of the Mercedes-AMG GT which first debuted at the 2014 Paris Motorshow, R variants took the sleek two-door, grand tourer, coupe’s design and turned up the performance wick to 11. Featuring a redesigned exterior to increase the vehicles overall track abilities, the AMG GT R sits lower and wider than its donor vehicle and adds a substantive aerodynamic package to keep the performance coupe glued to the track. Befitting the track focussed nature of the AMG GT R the interior of the car feature

It becomes all too easy to use hyperbole and cliche when describing a particular car having “the best spec” or “no box left unticked” etcetera, however for this particular DBS we absolutely mean it! This Aston Martin DBS Superleggera is so jaw-droppingly beautiful that we should add the word “art" in front of “collector" instead of “car”. No matter what angle this car is viewed from it is a miracle of design and engineering where the aesthetic hasn’t been compromised by anyone in a lab coat. W
