Offered for sale is the beautiful Winfield Racing 1991 & 1992 Australian Drivers Championship winning SPA003 . This stunning car is very original having spent most of its life after '92 in the GMS foyer and a museum in Gosford and one of only a few that have won multiple championships.
Formula Brabham/Holden was Australia's premier big open wheel category and this SPA won every race in '91 & '92 except 3 races in which it came second. In 1991 the car ran in the red, white & blue Nissan colours and was presented for 1992 in the Winfield livery when the Gibson team changed the team & GTR's into the iconic Winfield red.
It was also the car that Mark Skaife used to win the 'triple crown' in the Iconic Winfield livery where in 1992 he won Bathurst , ATCC in the Skyline GTR & the Australian Drivers Championship all in the same year. This is unlikely to ever be repeated, culminating in the famous Oran Park finale.
The car was designed and built in the UK by ex Jordan F1's Gary Anderson and built by open wheel specialists SPA and has never been changed from its current blown diffuser '92 specification.
In 2015 I acquired the car and associated items from an avid Gibson/Nissan collector where it had been displayed for 15 or so years and I completed a comprehensive recommissioning and ground up preparation for historic racing. All photos and documentation available to genuine parties inc. all crack testing, fuel cell cert, all running gear, brakes. suspension rebuilt.
The car has a gold std CofD and historic logbook and competes in its original 'hand cut' livery and paint that has never been repainted.
The car is very fast, forgiving and easy to use and I have only raced it sympathetically to preserve its stunning originality. It would suit a collector, museum or, as I am, a historic racing enthusiast.
The car comes with a couple of stunning original period trophies, original and Historic logbook & CofD, Winfield Racing memorabilia, team clothing from ex GMS team members and a load of period articles, original engineering drawings, original wing forming jigs .
Car Also comes with Original period marked Dunlop tyres, (motorbike) transport wheels
On the button ready to race with large spares inventory including wings, wheels, jacks, shocks, springs and specialist tools with everything you need to go racing. Happy to assist anyone wanting to continue to race as the historic racing fraternity is extremely welcoming and great category. Also correct spare S1 block heads & crank if someone wanted to put the Perkins engine (currently fitted) aside and race with a new engine.
