Gearbox is Tractive Sequential RD09 as used in Sweden in big HP Volvo rally cars and the UK in Millington Escorts etc, best of its type for fitment to Gravel spec Volvo Rally cars, DIY drop gear options available from Tractive in Sweden to give you any range of final drive specifications.- an awesome peice of engineering, $20K replacement cost, done very little work approx 8 events.
After a couple of final drive failures using a standard Volvo 1030 diff (since the new engine- too much grunt) the differential has now been upgraded to the larger Volvo Dana 1031 housing using the bigger C&P as used in Sweden in both Rally and Track racing and customised to take Dana 44 Custom Axles. Diff centre is Tenaci Rally Torsion Differential as used in Sweden in these cars. Car is fitted with a diff oil cooler to control oil temps. Incredible Traction.
Suspension utilises standard Volvo 5 Link geometry with custom made Lower arms and adjustable Torque Rods for strength and reliablility, fully adjustable rear end to enable rear wheel alignment. Murray Coote MCA's remote cannister shocks in the rear and Swedish Spec long travel Sellholm Specification Bilstein Front suspension with long travel Eibach Springs, rear springs Sellholm Gravel spec for 240. The car soaks up bumps brilliantly, its supple and predictable to drive. A lot of development work has gone into making the car fast and easy to drive.
The body shell is a genuine early 242GT 2 door (becoming rare). I also have the matching numbers original engine that will come with the car. Rollcage built to pickup main suspension load points, no cracks in the body or previous repairs, car has never been crashed and has no bog anywhere. Its as straight a rally shell as you will ever see. Extensive light weighting done including Carbon Fibre Bonnet and Bootlid ($5K) , side glass removed, door intrusion removed, lightweight alloy bumpers etc, car is approx 1260kg.
Brakes are vented discs all round, large 4 piston alloy callipers up front and twin piston rears, Project Mu front pads and Ferodo DS2500 Rear, adjustable rear bias control and dual circuit Hydraulic handbrake.
Sparco seats, near new six point harnesses, Rallysafe module and wiring installed, will come with Terraphone and Terratrip Geotrip tripmeter. The car has also been converted to take 5x120 PCD wheels so takes BMW or Holden Rims (depending on Centre Bore) will also come with 4 spare BMW lightweight rims.
This car has been a 10 year project with no expense spared to make it the fastest rally Volvo in Australia and competitive against all other classic rally cars. Look at Stage times for recent Monaro Stages and Rosewood rally. Current outright Runner Up in 2025 AMSAG Classic Rally Championship, Won the 2020 ACT Silver Cup RWD Championship, amongst lots of other trophy wins over the years. If you want something different to a Datsun or an Escort, that creates an amazing amount of interest, that is a blast to drive then this car is worth a look. The car is an outright top 10 contender in any classic rally we have in Australia in the right hands, im only average and have have achieved some very good results.
A LOT of money spent over the years developing this car. FYI, the gearbox is not for sale separately nor is the engine. I may consider a $15K price reduction if I sell the car without the gearbox (I can keep it for the future). Plenty of options out there for these cars now, like Tremec conversions etc if you want to save some money. If you want to buy the whole package and pull the engine and gearbox out and put it in an Escort or something else thats fair enough, but I dont want to do that myself, if the car was in Sweden or the UK it would be worth considerably more money. The engine is as good as any 4cylinder rally engine out there, you could pay more than this car is worth just for BDG, Millington etc and this motor would eat them alive, wether its a 45 degree day or minus 10 degrees its rock solid.
The car is also easy to maintain, and all the parts used are readily available items either here in Australia or in Sweden. Keeping it going wont break the bank. Engine makes peak power at 7000rpm so isnt a time bomb and doesnt need annual freshen ups, built with longevity in mind and will run happily on 98 RON pump fuel.
