This is a very rare opportunity to purchase a genuine historic rally car with real pedigree. This car was purchased new 1975 and immediately turned into a rally car. It competed in the 1975 and the 1976 Southern Cross International Rallies. It was taken off the road and extensively refurbished and strengthened to undertake the gruelling 1977 London to Sydney Singapore Airlines Rally, the longest car rally ever held, covering 30,000 klms. Starting 53rd, the car finished 18th.The car was crewed by Rod Jones, Arthur Davis and John Latham, all from Bathurst NSW. It finished 2nd and 3rd outright in some of the Australian competitive stages of the rally. This car also competed in the 1979 Repco Around Australia Trial, crewed by Kevin McDiarrmid, David Travis and Peter Phegan, I purchased the car in 2019, undertaking a two year restoration back to its 1977 London to Sydney rally livery. Rod Jones, who built the car originally, helped with the restoration. Engine work was undertaken by Rod Jones, Graham Wilkins and Stewart Wilkins. Gearbox and LSD were prepared by Stewart Wilkins. All mechanical and suspension parts were refurbished or replaced. It has the original Halda terratrip still installed. The car was recently on display at the National Motor Racing Museum in Bathurst. The July 2023 edition of Thoroughbred and Classic Cars magazine carried a six page article on the amazing history of the car. A restoration, keeping the original patina of the floor pan and as many original non-mechanical parts as possible, was completed in 2021. The car had no rust and is very solid. This is the only car to ever compete in a Southern Cross International, the London to Sydney Rally and the Repco Around Australia Trial. It is unique. Now reluctantly offered for sale. This is you chance to own a rare piece of rally history. It is ready to rally and is eligible for future marathon rally reunions. Comes with original CAMS logbook and a NSW engineers certificate and full registration (with original 1977 rego number). Restoration receipts file for over $50,000 included. Plus detailed photo library of every step of the restoration process. Some rare spares are included, as well as some one off parts made for this car. Comes with 6 as new rally tyres on rare Chevoit alloy wheels and 5 new road tyres on Aunger Hotwire wheels. Open to serious offers. Add something unique to your collection.
